Hugh arrived to Trafalgar Square on Wednesday 21st April!

Job done. Hugh Williams-Preece ran a total of 1310miles (2108Km) starting in Lisbon (Portugal) on 3rd of March and finishing in Trafalgar Square (London) on Wednesday 21st April. He raised over £35,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, got through 6 pairs of trainers, eat 100 sachets of porridge, listened to over 500 songs on his ipod, had around 30 ice baths, lost 2stone in weight, and surprisingly only had 1 blister.

To give advise on resting periods, pace and running biomechanics were a few of the daily jobs required for this challenge.

Warming up with the Optimun Nutrition Team who kindly came over to France to run with Hugh for a marathon.

Working with Hugh, was inspirational as he was very disciplined and applied all concepts of rehabilitation to his training routine.

Give your time in exchange for great experiences

Do whatever you can to gain the most experience even if it means donating your own time for free.

London Marathon 26th April 09, volunteered for WSPA (World Society of Protection for Animals).

Attending as a volunteer to sports events is such a great opportunity not only will get you a chance to increase your existing knowledge, meet other therapists, or visit new places; but you might get to help worldwide causes.

Volunteers for Kidney Research enjoying themselves at the Edinburgh Marathon 31st May 09

Had a chance to work and coordinate other therapists at the Great Manchester run on the 17th May 09 for BUPA runner's

After attending to the Great Manchester Run, I heard that the 'fastest man on earth' was going to be running 150m that same evening. This opportunity could not be missed so decided to go and check it out. It took me 3 hours to find a good spot whilst it took him less than 10seconds to finish the race!

Bolt's ever first street run was in the streets of Manchester in May 09

You have to be mad....

The Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon took place in July 09, where competitors
went through an exhilarating test of stamina, strength and fitness in the beautiful Scotish Highlands.
The Challenge?:
  1. Swim 1.5 Km or 0.8 miles across Loch Tay
  2. Run/Walk 24 Km or 15 miles up and over the seven Munros Mountains
  3. Kayak 11 Km or 7 Miles up to the Loch Tay
  4. Cycle 54 Km or 34 Miles around the Loch perimeter

............In other words, this only meant quadruple the action, quadruple the pain!

My office.....
Luckily for the competitors in this event, a team of Sports Therapists, Physios and Massage Therapists were there to assist with injuries, strapping, sports massages, moral support, and in some instances, phsycological help!

Swimming across the frozen waters of Loch Tay

Where most participants suffered from muscle crapms: as they get off their kayacs

Cycling around Loch Tay

Transition from Kayac to Bike

By the way, competitors do not officially finish until they cut a melon in two with a sword at the end of the race!

As from us, the therapists who attended to this magnificent event; once we completed all treatmeants all it was left to do was to enjoy the evening eating, taking part in scotish dancing, watching fireworks and camping at the end of the night - Not bad for a days work!

Interested in Biomechanics?

The understanding of biomechanics compliments the diagnostic and rehabilitation process.
Intelligent Training Systems are running courses all over the UK for all those who prescribe exercises from elite level to young school children.

These courses provide you with biomechanical screening skills, which can be applied to individuals, clubs or organizations. This information can then be used as an integral part of an injury prevention and management programme, a conditioning programme for optimal performance, and is the basis upon which a functional training programme and a sports conditioning programme can be delivered safely and effectively.
Here is a selection of their clients:

Linford Christie

Mark McNulty

Steve Redgrave

Kelly Holmes

Having attended to their workshops, I strongly recommended them as is a tool that can be combined along with our Sports Therapy skills. For more info visit:

Hugh goes for a running assessment

Hugh William-Prentice gets his gait and running assessed by Profeet in Fulham in preparation for his run across 3 Countries in March 10.
Experts recommended to have at least 5 used pairs of trainers before he leaves. Think he needs to have them numbered so he doesen't get confused.
